Deregulation of Temporary Event Notices (TENs)

November 19, 20232 min read

The Libertarian Party recognises the importance of individual freedom, economic prosperity, and cultural enrichment. To further these principles and stimulate London's nightlife, arts, and events economies, we propose the following policy on Temporary Event Notices (TENs):

1.      Deregulation of TENs:

The Libertarian Party advocates for the deregulation of Temporary Event Notices (TENs) in London. This will be achieved by enabling premises to have access to an unlimited number of TENs for their events.

Deregulation means removing arbitrary restrictions on the number of TENs available to each space and premises, promoting economic growth, and fostering a vibrant and diverse cultural scene in London.

2.      Default Approval with Health and Safety Exception:

Under our proposed policy, councils will automatically approve Temporary Event Notices unless there are legitimate health and safety concerns.

The responsibility for reviewing and approving TENs should rest on premises owners and organisers, who are best positioned to ensure the safety and security of their events. Councils should only step in to reject a TEN if there are clear and valid health and safety issues, ensuring that the fundamental rights of entrepreneurs are respected.

3.      Economic Stimulus:

Deregulating TENs will have a positive impact on London's economy. It will lead to an increase in the number and diversity of events across the city, bringing in new money, creating jobs, and generating additional tax revenue.

With greater freedom for event organisers and venues, there will be a surge in entrepreneurial activity, leading to the growth of the hospitality, entertainment, and creative industries. London's reputation as a global cultural and entertainment hub will be further enhanced.

Conclusion:

The Libertarian Party's policy on deregulating Temporary Event Notices reflects our commitment to individual liberty, economic growth, and cultural diversity. By eliminating unnecessary regulations and allowing the market to thrive, we aim to stimulate London's nightlife, arts, and events economies. This policy will usher in a new era of prosperity, creativity, and personal freedom, benefitting all residents and visitors to the great city of London.
