Democracy RIP?

The Libertarian Party have long stood for the return of power to local communities and away from centralised government. Opposing the European Union is merely an extension of that belief. How can a failed German Defence Minister make decisions that are in the best interest of people in Barnsley or Burnham-on-Sea?

Most likely, Ms von Leyen has never even heard of them, let alone know what makes their inhabitants tick.

At the same time, staunch Brexiteer Dominic Raab is forced to resign by a P.M. he once saw as an ally. The allegations of bullying by a group of civil servants who found him hard to work with were trivial at best, and malicious at worst. The end result, however, was the same. Yet another Brexiteer removed from elected office by the faceless blob of the British deep state.

Raab’s “crime” wasn’t about his curt manner or the way he threw tomatoes into a bag. Far more likely, it was about his fervent belief in how Brexit dealt with correctly could lead to an economic boost for the country. "We'll be better off if we're freed up to trade more energetically with the growth markets like Latin America and Asia. I think it will be good for job creation and also cut prices in the stores." He said at the time of the referendum.

So, it is somewhat disconcerting to see 21 Remainers in the cabinet after the likes of Boris Johnson and Liz Truss were also brought down by unelected influencers in the system. In the words of Nigel Farage, “They are led by a Prime Minister who tells us he voted for Brexit… but has very little evidence to prove it.”

17.4 million people voted to leave the EU, the biggest democratic exercise this country has ever seen. It is being wrecked, not because it is a bad idea, but because those with the vision and belief to take advantage of the opportunities it offers are being forced out of office.

Representative Democracy in this country is dead.
